What is Scratch?

## What is Scratch? **Scratch** is a programming language where you snap blocks together to build programs. You can make games, cartoons and stories without typing any code. ## The Scratch window - **Stage** — at the top right. Your program runs here. - **Sprite** — the things that move on the stage. The default sprite is a cat 🐱. - **Block palette** — on the left: Motion, Looks, Sound and more. - **Script area** — in the middle. Drag your blocks here and snap them together. ## Your first program 1. Go to [scratch.mit.edu](https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/editor/). 2. From **Events**, drag in the `when green flag clicked` block. 3. From **Looks**, snap the `say Hello! for 2 seconds` block underneath it. 4. Click the green flag! 🎉 > 💡 Tip: Blocks stick to each other like "magic magnets".
